- To make Caramelised Onions at home, start by pouring the oil into a hot pan. When the pan is hot, add the sliced onions and sauté them on high heat until the onions start to change color. They will also leak a large amount of water at this point.
- Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and have a sweet, caramelized texture and flavor.
- The whole thing takes 15 to 20 minutes, sometimes even a half-hour, and the more onions you use, the longer it takes.
- When the onions are golden brown, remove them from the pan and use the caramelized onions as a garnish. Give the Caramelized Onion Tart a shot.
