What is Gmail? Gmail is a Google-provided free web-based email service. We can send and receive email using a google account. We need to set up a Gmail account before we can use this service. Gmail can be accessed over the web or using third-party apps that use the POP or IMAP protocols to synchronise email content. Gmail launched as a limited beta version on 1 April 2004 and finished its testing phase on 7 July 2009.
Gmail has a storage capacity of 15 gigabytes as of today. Users can receive emails with attachments up to 50 megabytes in capacity and send emails up to 25 megabytes in size. Larger files can be sent, and files from Google Drive can be inserted within the message. Gmail offers a search-friendly layout as well as a “conversation view” that resembles an Internet forum. The service is known among website developers for being one of the first to use Ajax.
