Cities that are happy will grow faster, giving you access to a larger labor force and allowing you to work on all of the most coveted titles. Happiness was the mechanic around which you would grow your cities in prior games in the series, but it has been replaced by Amenities in Civ 6. Civ 6 Amenities Guide – Growing Your Cities
In Civ 6, there are two elements that influence the growth of your cities: amenities and food. To stay productive, each individual in any given city requires two units of food. Any excess food that you produce in excess of this requirement is put into a pool. This pool determines how quickly your cities grow in population. Obviously, more food in this pool means faster growth.
Amenities contribute by influencing the value your city derives from surplus food. A good Amenity count results in a 10% bonus growth rate, whereas a negative Amenity count results in a -15 percent growth rate. It’s crucial to note, though, that Amenities work in the same way as food does. Surplus Amenities are delivered to a pool that later bestows benefits or penalties on growth rates, with one Amenity necessary for every two residents in a city.
Civilization VI Amenities Guide – Sources of Amenities
In Civilization 6, there are numerous sources of Amenities. In fact, you’ll start your empire with an Amenity because your capital city is usually built with one. Additional cities, on the other hand, will start with zero Amenities and will be required to have one if they reach their third citizen.
There are seven ways to obtain Amenities in total:
● Great People
● National Parks
The primary source of Amenities, especially in the early game, is Luxury Resources. Diamonds, Citrus, Cocoa, Dyes, Ivory, Marble, and other materials fall into this category. This link will take you to a list of all the Luxury Resources available in the game. Each Luxury Resource instantly supplies one Amenity to a city, for a total of four cities.
The Wonders that give Amenities are as follows:
● Alhambra: +2 Amenities.
● Colosseum: +1 Amenity, and +1 Amenity to all cities withing six tiles.
● Estádio do Maracanã: +2 Amenities to all cities in your civilization.
● Huey Teocalli: +1 Amenity for each adjacent Lake tile.
There are a variety of government policies scattered throughout the Civic tree that grant benefits to your Amenity output:
● Retainers are a military policy that provides a service to communities with a garrisoned force.
● Liberalism is an economic policy that gives all cities with at least two speciality districts
● New Deal: An economic programme that gives all cities with at least three speciality districts +2 amenities, +4 housing, and -8 gold.
● Sports Media: An economic programme that gives cities with sports media +1 amenity.
The Entertainment Complex specialty district, which is accessed via the Games and Recreation Civic, is another significant source of Amenities. The Entertainment Complex, in its most basic form, supplies a single Amenity to the city in which it is located. As you progress through the
Technology and Civics branches, you’ll discover new buildings that can improve the Amenity output of an Entertainment Complex:
● Arena: +1 Amenity.
● Zoo: +1 Amenity, which extends to all cities within 6 tiles.
● Stadium: +2 Amenities to all cities within 6 tiles.
