Hot dogs also called wiener, frank, red-hots and sausage is an american cuisine but really loved by indians too. There are numerous ways to make a hot dog according to one’s taste and different combinations of chilli, mustard and other ingredients used. Mostly, hot dogs are made of beef or pork but veg hot dog is delicious too. The recipe given below is of a homemade veg hot dog making your evening snacks yummy.

Ingredients for The Hot Dogs

  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 2 large peeled and mashed potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons of all purpose flour
  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs
  • 1 bunch of shredded lettuce
  • 4 tablespoons of tomato ketchup
  • 4 teaspoons of coarse mustard paste
  • 4 teaspoons if english mustard paste
  • 3 chopped medium onions
  • 4 slit green chilies
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Salt as per taste
  • 3-4 chopped green chilies
  • ½ tablespoon of crushed red chilies
  • 4 tablespoons of chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 200 grams of grated cottage cheese
  • 1 tablespoons of raisins
  • 1 tablespoon of oil

Method for Hot Dogs

The very first step to this yummy snack is to slit 4 buns into half without cutting them exactly.
Take a pan and heat 1 tablespoon of oil and when the oil is hot enough, add onions. Saute till they become translucent. Meanwhile, soak the raisins in warm water.

Add potatoes, cottage cheese, crushed red chilies, chopped green chilies, coriander leaves, garam masala powder and salt. Mix them well. Then, add soaked raisins and make cylindrical balls out of this mixture.
Roll these balls in all purpose flour and then dip in milk and roll them in breadcrumbs.

Refrigerate this for one hour or some more time.

Take a kadai and heat the oil. When the oil is hot enough, deep fry these rolls and when they become golden brown, take them out and drain the oil on a paper towel.

Taking the buns, apply butter inside and top butter with mustard pastes and a tablespoon of chopped onions.
Then, spread the tomato ketchup and lettuce. Place the fried rolls in between the buns and serve hot with slit green chilies and ketchup and enjoy the snack time.

One can even use these ingredients for topping the hog dog like- mayonnaise, cheese, olives, chopped pickles, relish, peppers, sauerkraut etc. depending on the choice. You can also cook onions in sauerkraut and tomato sauce for a tastier topping.
